Colon hydrotherapy is a thorough and yet gentle way to cleanse the large intestine of putrefied waste, gas and toxins. We have an amazing colon hydrotherapy suite at Viva Wellness. We do our best to make the environment relaxing and meditative.
What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
The large intestine can accumulate waste, gas and toxins. When the colon is not eliminated properly, waste backs up and solidifies throughout the organ. The result is toxins can get reabsorbed into the bloodstream and attack other vulnerable areas of the body. Colonics are a great way to detox the entire body, correct proper muscle tone of the large intestine and reverse many ailments.
Colon hydrotherapy gently cleanses the large intestine using lightly pressurized water inserted into the colon to soften up old impacted waste. The waste is then released through a closed system machine that goes directly into the plumbing system.
Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy
The colon is 4-6 feet long and 1 foot of your colon can accumulate up to 10 pounds of waste. Our colon is a major way that we eliminate not only fecal matter but also toxins we take in throughout the day. If you are not eliminating properly chances are you have an accumulation of toxicity wreaking havoc on your body. When you get a colonic you are releasing toxic burdens throughout every organ and system in the body.
The actual benefits of colon hydrotherapy can be numerous. Note: If you currently have C. diff (Clostridium difficile) you can NOT get a colonic. If you have a history of C. diff, we will require a consultation with one of our nurse practitioners to confirm if you are a candidate for a colonic at VIVA Wellness.
What Happens During a Colon Hydrotherapy Session?
Colon Hydrotherapy sessions at VIVA Wellness are performed in a private suite. We do our best to make the environment comfortable, relaxing, and meditative. During your session you will be undressed from the waist down but covered by a towel.
At our clinic, we use a closed system with disposable tubing to perform your colonic. A proctal is lubricated and inserted just a few inches into the rectum. After that, gently pressured (body temperature) water begins to enter the rectum. The water goes through four different purifying filters before entering your body.
Through a series of fills and massaging of the abdomen, you will begin to release waste through the closed tubing. After 30-40 minutes the tubing is removed and you will have a chance to release any remaining waste in the private bathroom connected to our suite.

Enemas and implants can deepen your colonic detox when added to your colon hydrotherapy session.
Enema
An enema includes 32 ounces of water held for 15 minutes after your colonic. You can choose from a variety of different enema solutions

Colonics FAQs
When beginning to detox the colon we recommend anywhere from 4-10 colonics sessions, depending on your level of toxicity. The colon is 4-6 feet long and because the waste inside the colon can get very compacted it often takes multiple sessions to break it down. Scheduling your sessions as close together as possible will give you the best results.
During your first session you may feel some discomfort from the breakdown of the gas wall that has built up in your intestines over time. After introducing more hydration to your colon your sessions will get much easier.
At VIVA Wellness, we utilize single-use, sterile rectal nozzles and a multi-stage sanitation protocol. We use sterilized disposables, detailed sanitation protocols, and EPA-registered disinfectants to remove any danger of contamination.
It is impossible to become dependent on colonics. We use nothing but filtered water during our colonic hydrotherapy sessions. In fact, colonics help strengthen the muscles in the colon wall. This will help the peristalsis movement and you will be able to have more bowel movements on your own after the old matter is released.
Getting colonics will actually help re-balance your gut flora. The human body needs a balance of 70% good bacteria and 30% bad bacteria. Good bacteria cannot grow in a toxic environment, so by flushing out the bad, changing the diet and taking probiotics you can create that good and healthy environment for your gut.
A healthy colon has three bowel movements a day.
Your first session will take a little bit longer, followed by shorter sessions. For your initial colonic you should plan for approximately 75 minutes. Follow up sessions will be approximately 60 minutes each.
We recommend that clients that have more questions or wish to jump start their wellness journey schedule a session with our Nurse Practitioner to discuss your goals. You may also wish to add an Enema Infusion or Implant to your session.
We recommend avoiding caffeine and dairy products for 24 hours before your session. If you have a juicer at home or have access to freshly pressed juice we recommend having multiple juices in the days leading up to your appointment. Please come to your session on an empty stomach (no food 2-3 hours before your session and no liquids 30 minutes prior to your session).
There is usually no down time after a colonic. Most people tend to feel amazing after their sessions. If you are on the more toxic side you could have some general detox symptoms which include: headache, fatigue or nausea.
We recommend that you consult your physician or licensed healthcare practitioner if you have any concerns about your health or the appropriateness of colon hydrotherapy.

Contraindications include, but are not limited to—recent colon, rectal or abdominal surgery; congestive heart failure; intestinal perforations; carcinoma of the rectum; fissures or fistula; severe hemorrhoids; abdominal hernia; renal insufficiency; ulcerative colitis; Crohn’s disease; diverticulitis; blood in stool; first or last trimester of pregnancy; and cirrhosis of the liver.

Our office policy is that a client be 16 years or older. A legal guardian must be present the entire session. A consult with our nurse practitioner is REQUIRED with both minor and parent prior to booking your session.
An enema is a therapeutic procedure to deepen your detox. We use a stainless steel enema bucket with 32oz of liquid (coffee, herbs, etc.) and insert it into the colon. After about 15 minutes it is released on the toilet. We do this procedure after the colonic so you have better absorption after the removal of waste.
An implant is a small amount of liquid that is inserted into the colon after a colonic. We use different mixtures including probiotics, lavender, essential oils, chlorophyll, etc. Implants help with anxiety, insomnia, balancing of gut flora, inflammation, repopulating good bacteria after the use of antibiotics, parasites, and more.
