Integrative Medicine, Gut Health, & Milwaukee’s Growing Wellness Industry

At VIVA Wellness we are proud of the integrative and functional approach we take when it comes to all things health. We strive to get to the root cause of health issues instead of symptom management alone. Without taking this approach, what happens when these things remain unmanaged within us? That’s something we’re not willing to learn. Championing this message has allowed so many wonderful people to find us and come into our world—many of which have become clients, team members, fans, etc. We love sharing and living this message! Recently we had the pleasure of connecting with another local provider sharing this mission—Milwaukee’s Lakeside Natural Medicine!

Founded in 2011, Lakeside Natural Medicine is a Shorewood-based naturopathic medicine clinic comprised of three Naturopathic Doctors (ND) trained to provide health and wellness services for the whole family. Lakeside’s NDs empower patients to take control of their health by identifying and addressing the root cause of disease using natural therapies. They help people facing a multitude of health conditions, such as autoimmune disorders, obesity, hormone imbalances, gastrointestinal disorders, thyroid conditions, and chronic fatigue. Naturopathic medicine’s origins are in the nature cure movement of the 19th century. The earliest doctors used herbs, food, water, fasting, and tissue manipulation to restore the body to health. Today’s naturopathic doctors (NDs) combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science.

Sound familiar? It should, because that’s our approach, too: getting to the root cause and addressing it utilizing the wisdom of nature (which includes your own body), the genius of modern, Western Medicine and the brilliant advances in technology. It all fits together.

In our chats, we’ve identified some powerful ways that our approaches complement one another. Again, no treatment or approach replaces another—all have purpose. And what a beautiful parallel to the body and all its systems. The body is both vastly more complicated and simple than we may understand.

So we want to talk about it, and you’re invited! There are so many ways our two clinics work together, and we’re excited to share it all in an upcoming Instagram Live on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 6:00 PM. *The conversation has been postponed — subscribe to our newsletter or stay tuned here for the new date!*

While the conversation will take us exactly where it’s meant to, the topics below are on the agenda:

  • Introductions of FNP & Founder of Viva Wellness, Jennifer Hruz, and one of Lakeside Natural Medicine’s MDs, Dr. Katarina Meister. Their practices and the stories that led them here.
  • Gut health and each clinic’s approach when a client comes in with “symptoms”
  • How do we define “gut health”
  • Colon Hydrotherapy, benefits, and how they influence gut health
  • Gut health, hormones, and hormone testing
  • Reflections on Milwaukee’s wellness community

To say we’re excited about both this conversation and the entire collaboration of two powerful approaches to health (and entire teams of open-minded folks coming together in this way) is a major understatement.

If you have questions you’d like to hear addressed in the live, please let us know by emailing
